General Qualifications Required for General Practitioner (GP)

  1. 5 years recent general practice experience, acceptable to and assessed by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners

  2. Having pass Australian Medical Council MCQ exam
  3. A postgraduate qualification or fellowship
  4. Recent emergency medicine experience (within the last 12 months)
  5. English language proficiency Either IELTS (score of 7) or OET (A or B) in all components OR sit for the tests

Overseas practice will not be considered to meet GP qualification if it is

  1. One in which the patients are selected or referred to doctors by others
  2. Predominantly in a field of specialty e.g. Pediatrics, women Health or Military Service

  3. In a hospital environment as an intern or resident
  4. In a hospital emergency department
  5. As a hospital medical officer primarily dealing with in-patient care
  6. In an outpatient department of a hospital unless that department is the only source of primary care for the community it serves

APPLICANTS FROM THE UK, CANADA AND NEW ZEALAND

   Who have either:-

  1. Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) AND the Certificate of the joint Committee on (Postgraduate Training for General Practice (JCPTGP) UK OR

  2. The certificate in Family Practice from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) AND who have also passed both parts of the Medical Council of Canada qualifying Examination OR

  3. Fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP)
Must complete the following steps

  1. Applicants must submit their CV either online or by email
  2. Our recruitment committee will assess the CV submitted
  3. Successful applicants will be interviewed on the telephone by the Country Doctors recruitment committee
  4. We will assist applicants to obtain registration and the appropriate Visa, refunding the fees at contract time.




APPLICANTS FROM COUNTRIES OTHER THAN UK, CANADA AND NEW ZEALAND

  1. Applicants must submit their CV either online or by email.
  2. Our recruitment committee will assess the CV submitted
  3. Applicants must complete the RACGP assessment form called
    APPLICATION FOR ASSESSMENT OF TIME IN OVERSEAS GENERAL PRACTICE
    (click to download the form)
    and return the form to Country Doctors. Applicants must also pay the required assessment fees and send evidence of payment to us. If an applicant is successful and joins Country Doctors, we will refund the fees.

  4. Successful applicants will be interviewed on the telephone by the State Medical Board involved, such interview to be organized by Country Doctors.
  5. We will assist applicants to obtain registration and the appropriate Visa, refunding the fees at contract time.
